Iceland is blessed in the sense that we have many exciting options when it comes to fishing. It is common knowledge that Iceland is one of the best places in the world for salmon fishing but we do offer some exciting options for trout as well.
The sea trout is as the name suggests trout that run in to the sea and return to the river just like their kin the salmon. The sea trout is a great sport to fish and no less so than the salmon. In my opinion the difference is that the sea trout is more of a sprinter but the salmon long distance runner. Once you hook in to a sea trout literally all hell breaks loose and he gives you his all in the first moments but he has less stamina than the salmon. Some of my most memorable fish have been the sea trout with its aggressive nature and spectacular jumps. And the sea trout fishing has the added bonus of having a longer season or from April first until October 2oth.
We at Kolskeggur do offer good option for the sea trout fishing in The Hólsá East Bank which is the lower part of the East Ranga where it flows in to sea. We offer a great lodge with six twin rooms, all en-suite and of course there is a jacuzzi and a veranda with magnificent views over mount Hekla.
The season opens on April first and this is a great option for a family or a group of friends.
