River Affall

One of the most productive rivers in Iceland

River Affall flows gently between East and West Landeyjar in south Iceland only one hour twenty minute drive from Reykjavik. The  river Affall is a gin clear spring fed river on the smaller side – perfect for single handed fly fishing. The average catch for the river is a whopping 760 salmon per season and in 2020 a new record was set with 1728 salmon caught which was the third best result in the country.

World class fishing!

The Affall river is a hidden gem producing some of the best Atlantic Salmon fishing in Iceland.  The river has over 80 marked pools so there is plenty of space for the four rods.

The Affall is a river on the smaller side, slow flowing through meadows with perfect pools for light equipment.  We recommend a size 7-9 single handed rod, as the river is naturally cold it helps to use a sink tip in many pools to get the within striking distance.

The river is delicate and should be treated as such, smaller flies and micro tubes work well here but you should steer clear of the heavy hitters.

Kross fishing lodge

The fishing lodge is located by the farm Kross on the east side of Affall. To get to the lodge you cross the bridge over the river Affall on highway number 1 and then take a right turn and drive due south. Then you are on road 253 or Bakkavegur and drive to the Gunnarshólmi community center. You continue driving straight south to the town of Kross where you will find the fishing lodge on the left.

The facilities consist of 5 bedrooms for 8 people, a spacious living room and kitchen, toilet and shower. On the veranda you will find a BBQ and there is a fully fitted kitchen with a fridge and a freezer

Anglers may arrive at the lodge an hour before fishing, except after September 20, when they can arrive at the hour the fishing starts. On the day of departure, anglers must stop fishing at 12.
